Financial Aid

Our Financial Aid Advisors

At Seacoast Career Schools, we don’t want finances to hold you back from reaching your career goals. Our financial aid advisors are here to help you apply for financial aid if you qualify. The first step is to fill out the FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA can show you what types of financial aid you qualify for. We can also discuss other financial aid options with you, and set up a payment plan so that you can pay for your education in monthly installments.

Financial Aid Options

Finding the right financial aid options can help smooth the way toward your career education. There are federal programs, private loans, and our own in-house financing programs that can provide the extra support you need. Our financial aid advisors will sit down with you privately to work out a plan that meets your needs.

At Seacoast Career Schools, the Federal Student Aid programs are made available through the U.S. Department of Education and Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended. State and federal regulations determine the availability of these funds, and availability is subject to change.

Learning about Grants and Loans

You may have read about grants and loans to help support your education, and it is important to know the difference:

  • Loans are borrowed money. You have to repay them with interest.
  • Grants do not have to be repaid. The application process is usually more selective than with loans.

Federal Student Aid

The Federal Student Aid (FSA) programs are the country’s largest source of financial assistance for post-secondary education. The FSA program includes a number of different grant and loan options that can assist students in affording post-secondary education. These include Pell grants, Stafford loans, PLUS loans, and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG). Using a standard formula, the federal government determines who is eligible to apply based on the financial needs of students or their parents.

Tax-Payer Credits

The IRS offers incentives to get a better education through its system of tax-payer credits. Students (or the parents of dependent students) may qualify for tax credits for educational expenses. To learn more about this option, visit the Tax Benefits for Education Information Center.

GI Bill® Educational Benefits

The Sanford, ME campus is approved through the state approving agencies to certify veteran students and their dependents for use of the Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits (GI Bill). Speak with our financial aid advisors for more information, or visit the GI Bill national web site.

Installment Plans and Other Resources

Depending on your situation, our financial aid advisors may be able to arrange for an installment plan for you. In these cases, payments are made directly to the school, or its agent, and are due according to the schedule that is agreed upon by the student and the school.

When you meet with a financial aid advisor, you may learn about other options for financial aid. Some students have found financial support through Veterans’ Benefits and state-specific programs such as the Trade Act, Vocational Rehabilitation, Workforce-In-Action (WIA), and Workforce Development Programs (WDP). Each of these programs may have different eligibility requirements, depending on the state where you live. The worker assistance offices in your state can provide you with more information on these programs.
