Dental Office Procedures This course provides a foundation in the main areas of dental office management such as scheduling, records management, managing patient accounts, front office reception, accounts payable and receivable, inventory, and recall systems.
Dental Anatomy

Understanding dental anatomy is important for every dental assistant. This course covers the growth and development of teeth and the oral cavity that surrounds the teeth. Students will learn about the structure, location, and eruption schedule of teeth, as well as the function of each tooth. In addition, the course will review the function of the tissues and other structures that are present in the oral cavity. Students will also become familiar with dental terminology.

Chairside Dental Assisting I, II, III

This series of three courses provides a strong foundation in the principles and practices of chairside assisting. The courses include: care of the equipment and instruments, oral examination and histories, dental charting, oral evacuation, four-handed dentistry, local anesthetics, rubber dam placement, cavity preparation, and sterilization and infection control procedures. Students also learn chairside assisting requirements for special needs patients.

Pharmacology and Dental Emergencies

In this course, students will learn about pharmacology and prescription drugs that are commonly used in the field of dentistry. The course will focus on preparedness in dealing with common medical and dental emergencies. As part of the course, students will become certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Dental Reimbursement

This course is designed to provide an overview of dental insurance and the components of varied plans. Students will learn basic dental insurance terminology along with the dental procedure codes and how to process American Dental Association (ADA) claim forms.

The classes at Seacoast provide students with the skills and knowledge they will need to excel in a dental office. Seacoast’s coursework, including the hands-on clinical experience that students receive during the externship program, prepares students to enter the workplace with knowledge of the dental industry, marketable patient care skills, and a sense of professionalism and confidence.
