Title of Course Course Description

Medical Terminology

This component provides the Allied Health student with a comprehensive background of medical root words, prefixes and suffixes. The course gives further instruction on body structure, colors, anatomical planes and regions. The course also provides the Allied Health student with a study of medical terms for the following body systems: Integumentary System, Musculoskeletal and Nervous systems.
 
MA Clinical Fundamentals

Medical Clinical Lab begins to further the student’s theoretical knowledge and their

skills in a clinical laboratory setting. Topics in this course will include:

1) Surgical asepsis, 2) minor office surgery, 3) medical asepsis and infection control including OSHA and CLIA guidelines,4) safe behavior in clinical settings,5) charting and medical history, 6) physical measurements and vital signs,7) assisting with physical examinations.

 
MA Clinical Procedures

This continuation gives the student further understanding of the theoretical

knowledge and skills utilized in a clinical lab setting. Medical Assisting students will focus on the following main topic areas: 1) medical specialty exams, 2) EKG, 3) venipuncture, and 4) rehabilitative medicine.

 
Electronic Health Records

This course will introduce the students to the use of health information and the electronic health record for any setting within the health care industry from acute, ambulatory, long term, home health, specialty, population health, and personal health that encompass the continuum of care. This course will provide students with a practical understanding of what an electronic health record specialist is and how important they are in the job market today.

 
Anatomy & Physiology Fundamentals

This course gives the student an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of

the human body. Allied Health Students will review the following main topic areas; 1) structural units, 2) chemistry of living things, 3) cells, 4) tissues and membranes, 5) Integumentary System, 6) Central Nervous System, 7) Peripheral and Autonomic Nervous System, 8) Special senses and 9) Musculoskeletal System.

The classes at Seacoast provide students with the medical and clinical skills that they will need to succeed in the medical office environment. Seacoast’s coursework, including the hands-on clinical experience that students receive during the externship program, prepares students to enter the workplace with medical knowledge, marketable skills, and a sense of confidence.
